 Garden Tips And Garden Secrets!

Testing Your Soil in 2 days

  1. Add 1 cup of soil, 1 teaspoon off detergent to a 1 gallon Jar. Fill 2/3 with water, close tightly, shake hard for 2 minutes.

  2. Set on level surface. After 1 minute, mark the level off settled soil on the jar. This is the sand level.

  3. After 2 hours, mark the new soil level, this is the silt level.

  4. After 2 days, mark the final soil level this is your clay level.

  5. Compare the depth of each layer to the total depth of settled soil to determine the percentage of each. This will help to make a decision what is needed to make your soil great.

Ph Test

  1. Place 1 Tablespoon of soil in a container. Add distilled water, stir until mix is consistency of a milk shake.

  2. Let sit for 1 to 2 hours ad more water, if needed to keep the mixture at the right consistency.

  3. Lay a strip off litmus paper on the mixture and let it sit for a minute. Remove, rinse with distilled water.

  4. Compare the color of your test strip with the chart supplied with the soil test kit (fish aquarium test kits work to) to determine the PH Level.
